What makes you different from other artists?

I am passionate about expanding my practice. I don't stick to one medium or style. I feel I am constantly evolving as a person, so I let my art evolve with me without restricting myself to limited colour palettes or mediums.

How did you go from art lover to artist?

I guess I realised I wanted more from life than the 9-5. I followed many artists on Instagram that inspired me, they were doing what they loved, everyday. I started committing to daily painting, the more I did the more I became recognised.

What does your daily routine look like?

I always start my day with a 530am gym session to get me pumped for the day. I'll come home and do a meditation or walk the dog. Then before I get into to do lists or emails, ill do a coffee sketch. This may be a quick 5 min or even longer. This is for no one else but me, I may do nothing with these sketches or one day I may flick to them for creative references. It's just a nice way to get in that creative flow. From then on I may have a full day of emailing clients with quotes or a full day of painting commissions.

How has social media and digital marketing impacted your business?

Social Media and digital marketing is the reason I am doing what I love today. It has allowed me to share my art and connect with individuals all over the country.

Any tips or secrets around this you'd like to share?

My biggest tip is to use social media as a platform to connect and learn from. Unfollow the accounts that you gain nothing from. Fill your feed with accounts that help you with your self growth, that inspire you to be the best version of yourself. If you have a question for someone on your feed, send them a direct message, normally they will write back. But if you don't ask you wont know.

What do you wish you knew when you started in the industry?

I wish I new more people in the industry, I feel this would have jump started my journey.

The biggest mistake that taught you the most?

Having too much trust in people. I have learnt that people will let you down, they will go against their word. Learning from these experiences have taught me so much. I now look after my own butt. Make up contracts and get everything in writing from the beginning.

What’s your biggest passion for art is?

The way it makes me feel; When I paint, I loose myself and find myself at the same time. It allows me to express the emotions that may be caged up inside. Art is a voice. A vehicle for connection. I am passionate about encouraging everyone to express themselves through art.

Three takeaway points from this episode are:

  • Keep pushing through, even when things are going slow and nothing is happening, later on down the track they will come to fruition.

  • Commit to something everyday and you will begin to reap the rewards

  • Don’t be afraid to reach out to people via Instagram messaging that influence and inspire you, because you never know where this may lead you to.
